Testament of Anthony Aris

Though I’ve met all kinds – a thousand people in the West
Never did I meet such a good man as Anthony.
This dignified person who thought of the good for all,
Who will not praise his excellent character?

Anthony was a man who desired only peace,
So just think of his words at the moment of death,
No need to say it, everyone knows,
Here was a champion amongst men in samsara.

This, his last Testament that I did hear —
‘In my next life, if born a human being in this world,
I wish to be a hero working for peace
For all living beings, in every corner of the globe.’

In society, whatever action a good man like him takes,
Without thinking at all of his own happiness,
When his fellows also act for the good,
This becomes like the ‘secret essence of gold’.
As he takes the long journey towards his next life,
How very sad I am!
All you who loved him, whoever you are,
Do not dwell in sorrow, but rather become
A good person like him, and if you do that,
I know Anthony’s hopes really shall be fulfilled.
